Bipolar Disorder

The next form of depression and the last in this series to be discussed is Bipolar Disorder. This is also known as Bipolar One or Bipolar One Disorder. This is a form of mental illness and most people with Bipolar One also suffer from depression from time to time. People affected by this have had at least one manic episode in their lifetime. This illness can be disruptive in your life and the lives of your family, this is where your manic depression comes from. Over six million people plus those who have not sought help suffer from this illness. This can start in your teens and 20’s, but before you turn 50.

Saints of God, please know anyone can develop this. No matter how strong a saint of God you are, this can sneak up on you. The risk is much higher if there is a family member past or present who has suffered from this.

Some signs of Bipolar Disorder are:

  • You begin to have mood swings from feeling good to all of a sudden being irritable
  • behaving strangely
  • decreased need to sleep
  • Inflating your ego
  • Spending money excessively
  • Substance abuse
  • Having sex with people you would not otherwise hookup with
  • Loss of touch with reality

If this goes untreated, the episodes can last from a few days to several months. There are those who can go for long periods of time without an episode. You can also have mixed episodes of manic and depression. The only known treatment to man are drugs such as mood stabilizers lithium, Depokote. Anti-seizure drugs such as Tegratol, Lamictal, and Topomax. If episodes are severe, there are traditional anti-psychotic drugs such as Haldol and Thorazine used. Antidepressants used to treat this illness are Prozac, Zoloft, and Paxil. Tranquilizers used are Xanax, Ativan, and Valium.

The re-occurrence rate is high and there is no known cure according to man. But God is the healer of all sickness and disease. You don’t have to suffer alone, God has the answer. Along with being under a doctor’s care, here are some encouraging words from His word:

  • Psalms 46:1 – He is a very present in the time of need.
  • James 4:8 – Draw close to God and He will draw close to you.
  • Matthew 11:28 – Come all ye that are burdened and heavy laden and I will give you rest.

And here are some other scriptures to uplift and encourage you as well: Romans 12:2, 2 Timothy 1:7, Philippians 1:6, Isaiah 26:3, Isaiah 40:31, Psalms 29:11, Psalms 30:2 & 11, Psalms 34:19, and Psalms 118: 6, 8, 14, & 17.

Talk to your doctor when you have more questions about your illness, do research, and don’t be afraid to ask questions because this will help you get better. We at The Worship Center are here for you. Remember Philippians 2:5 – Let this mind be in you that is also in Christ Jesus.

Be blessed
