PTSD Part 2

Praise the Lord everyone!
In this next part on PTSD, causes will be discussed. The main symptoms of PTSD are:
  • Flashbacks: You can’t make the images in your mind go away, they replay over and over again in your mind. This is usually associated with combat veterans of war. They usually take a person away from reality and they begin to relive their traumatic experiences again. Sometimes, years can go by after a trauma, you do well, then one day a certain sound from years ago that was associated with the trauma can put you in a state of PTSD.
  • Emotionally detached: Not obvious to anyone who doesn’t notice it, other than the person experiencing the issue. Your emotional state goes into overdrive, you avoid any type of activity, you avoid places, you avoid people who were part of your trauma, you have trouble with functioning daily, and you are emotionally drained.
  • Jumpiness: Sudden noises that startle you and make you jump out of your skin (hyperactive startle reflex). You overreact to small things, you can’t concentrate which affects everyday living, especially on the job. You are always looking for danger, having troubles falling or staying asleep because of high states of arousal or alertness.
If you have symptoms that last longer than a month and it begins to affect your daily life, Saints of God, seek help from a mental health professional. This doesn’t mean you are crazy, but it says “I am having problems and I need help”. Sometimes Saint, after you have experienced trauma and you don’t seek help, you function as if nothing happened in order to keep family, job, or and other responsibilities intact. There comes a time when you don’t have to do all this anymore. What you have held inside for years can begin to come to the surface in your life and begin to affect the way you lived. The emotions of it all can at times be too much to handle because you never dealt with it before.
Don’t hesitate to seek help, there is no shame in what you are dealing with, the shame is not doing anything about it. We love you and support you, here are some scriptures to encourage you: John 14:1, John 14:27, Philippians 4:6-7, 1 Peter 5:6-7, Deuteronomy 33:27, Psalms 9:9-10, Psalms 46:1-3, Psalms 34: 17-19, Joshua 1:9
Be blessed
