Praise the Lord everyone!
In the next series for the wellness website, stress will be discussed. I’ll discuss what stress is, the different types of stress, and how it affects not only the person dealing with it, but how it affects others around you such as family.
What is stress? It is what you feel when you’re handling much more in your life than you should or need to handle. Can be caused by situations in your life that goes for a long period of time. Your hormones speed up in your heart, you breathe faster, and you get a burst of energy which is known as “fight or flight stress response”. Your body will respond as if you were in some sort of danger.
Some types of stress is normal and useful if you need to work hard or react to something quickly like some sort of deadline on your job or in a sports activity. When stress lasts too long, the effects can be bad. It can make you have headaches, upset stomach, back pain, trouble sleeping, and can weaken your immune system which makes it harder to fight infection in your body. If health problems already exist, they can become worse. You can become depressed and moody and it will affect other areas in your life.
Saints of God, there are stresses in our lives we should not have because we are a people set apart for God and how can we serve Him if we are stressed out by the world’s system? We are to take care of what God has entrusted to us, our bodies. Stress should not be a part of us for any length of time, this can affect our relationship and service to God.
Here are some scriptures to encourage you through your stressful times: Matthew 11:28-30, Psalms 55:22, Psalms 94:19, Psalms 118:5-6, Romans 8:28, Romans 12:2, Philippians 4:6-7, and John 14:27
